Testimony – Cenacle Companion

My name is Maura Philpott, and I live in Cork, Ireland. I work full time in the Health Service. I am married with two sons and a daughter. I have one grandson. My husband is a postman.

When did you first become aware that you had a call to deepen your spiritual life?

I felt the religion by rote that we had in our childhood was not enough.

Why did you choose the Cenacle Companions?

Happenstance and proximity, my next door neighbour invited me to a meeting.

What is the best thing about being a Cenacle Companion?

The prayer, the strength, the quiet time and the friendship.

What do you find most difficult?

I sometimes find sharing difficult.

What is most rewarding?

The spirituality.

What is most challenging?

Keeping focused.

What supports you as a Cenacle Companion?

The other Companions.

Any tips on how to pray?

Emptying your mind of inconsequential things.

Giving advice is always a bit risky, however what is the best bit you have been given?

What’s the worst thing that can happen? Which is good when I am being fearful about something.
