World Environment Day 2025
Today is World Environment Day, an annual day organised by the United Nations to raise public awareness of the environment and encourage action to protect it. We are also celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Laudato Si’.
As a community in London, we are aware of the challenges of climate change and the call to care for the environment.
There is a consciousness in London of the importance of the environment and efforts are being made to implement strategies to improve the environment. However, some of these are proving to be quite controversial. Our local council provide special bins to help us segregate waste for recycling.
We try, when possible, in our ministries, to highlight the need to respect nature. Recently one of us facilitated a morning reflection for a group and was able to integrate an experience in the small biodiversity garden close to the location. The people were invited to take a time of prayer focusing on the gifts of their five senses in the aptly named Eden Nature Garden!

We also have many opportunities to enjoy the green spaces and parks close to our house, especially Brockwell Park. The park is a place where we can frequently have informal conversations with people from diverse backgrounds about the beauty of nature.
Sometimes these conversations can lead to an exchange on the environmental challenges we face today.
This springtime we had the great joy of following the incubation period and arrival of six cygnets!
